Miranda Barker is a senior lecturer in education and SEND at Birmingham Newman University. Previously a primary school teacher, special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) and local authority specialist advisor, she now leads on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and inclusion across the School of Education and a BA (Hons) in Education and SEND. Miranda’s work focuses on inclusive practice, neurodiversity and fostering belonging for all children, young people and families. Her doctoral research examines the daily experiences of transition between home and school for autistic girls.
Miranda is an active member of the National Association for Special Educational Needs, National SENCO Advocacy Network and the Attachment Research Community, advocating for policy changes that strengthen SENCO leadership, relational approaches and systemic inclusion.
