Â鶹ÒùÔº Announces 2026 Â鶹ÒùÔº Academic Citizen of the Year

Â鶹ÒùÔº is delighted to announce James Noble-Rogers as the recipient of the 2026 Â鶹ÒùÔº Academic Citizen of the Year Award, recognising his outstanding contribution to education, his commitment to supporting colleagues and his longstanding advocacy for research-informed teaching and teacher education.

Throughout his 22-year tenure at the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET), James was an advocate for the role of universities in teacher education, working to strengthen the sector and ensure that research and evidence remain central to policy and practice. His ability to bridge the gap between government policy and the experiences of those working in teacher education made him a highly respected and influential voice across the educational community.

James has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to collaboration, building relationships across universities, schools, professional bodies and government. The judging panel, comprising members of Â鶹ÒùÔº’s Membership Committee, recognised James’s longstanding dedication to academic citizenship, his generosity in supporting colleagues and his ability to bring people together across the sector. The panel also acknowledged that much of his influential work has taken place behind the scenes, reflecting his genuine commitment to strengthening the profession rather than seeking personal recognition.

Following James’s retirement in 2026, this award celebrates not only his considerable achievements but also the lasting impact of his work on the teacher education and wider educational research communities.

The Â鶹ÒùÔº Academic Citizen of the Year is an award intended to recognise a colleague working in educational research who has made a significant contribution to the discipline as a whole and the academic community through their academic citizenship.
