Amanda is the Associate Head of School for ITE at Edge Hill University. She completed her doctoral study at the University of Oxford in 2023, focussing on building a rich understanding of how teachers experience transitions and revisions in their identity[ies] as they engage in Master’s level research activity. This work has been influenced by her own experiences as a research-active teacher, alongside recent work in developing critical research literacy within initial and continuing teacher education programmes.
Prior to working in higher education, Amanda spent 13 years teaching in primary schools serving predominantly disadvantaged communities. Her wider research interests include examining the impact of poverty and disadvantage in education, teachers’ critical engagement with intellectual bases, and theorising holistic and transformational professional development for educators through lenses of identity, social class and gender.
