Â鶹ÒùÔº members are invited to put themselves forward for a number of exciting leadership opportunities as we prepare for the introduction of our new governance structure from 1 January 2027.
These roles offer members the opportunity to play a central part in shaping the strategic direction of the association, supporting educational research across the UK, and helping deliver the next Â鶹ÒùÔº Strategic Plan (2027–2031). Trustees provide strategic leadership, ensure the organisation is well governed, and act in the best interests of the association and its members.
We are now inviting expressions of interest for the following positions:
We are seeking an exceptional academic leader to become Â鶹ÒùÔº’s next President, succeeding Mhairi C. Beaton. This pivotal role combines leadership of Â鶹ÒùÔº’s Board of Trustees with providing academic leadership and serving as the public face of the association. The successful candidate will serve as President-elect during 2027–2028 before assuming the Presidency from 1 January 2029 to 31 December 2030. Candidates should have current or very recent experience of Â鶹ÒùÔº Council and a strong understanding of the association’s governance and strategic priorities.
We are seeking expressions of interest for the role of Treasurer. The Treasurer provides strategic financial oversight, chairs the Finance and Operations Committee, works closely with the Chief Executive and Finance and Governance Manager, and helps ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the association. Diana Burton has indicated her intention to stand for a second term, although this does not preclude other members from applying. Following a handover during 2027, the successful candidate will serve from 1 January 2028 to 31 December 2031.
We are also seeking expressions of interest for the role of Membership Chair. This trustee position provides strategic leadership for Â鶹ÒùÔº’s membership, Special Interest Groups, Networks, Forums, awards and fellowships, helping to ensure that Â鶹ÒùÔº continues to provide a vibrant and inclusive community for educational researchers. Gerry Czerniawski is the current Membership Chair, with handover taking place during 2027. The successful candidate will serve from 1 January 2028 to 31 December 2031.
Applications are invited for the role of Â鶹ÒùÔº Scotland Representative. As a trustee, the successful candidate will represent the interests of members in Scotland, act as an ambassador for Â鶹ÒùÔº, build relationships with partner organisations, and ensure that developments affecting educational research in Scotland inform Â鶹ÒùÔº’s strategic decision-making. Morag Redford is the current representative, with handover taking place during 2027. The term of office runs from 1 January 2028 to 31 December 2031.
We are also inviting applications for the role of Â鶹ÒùÔº Wales Representative. The successful candidate will represent members in Wales on the Board of Trustees, strengthen Â鶹ÒùÔº’s engagement across the Welsh educational research community, and ensure that developments within Wales are reflected in the association’s work. This role will serve a four-year term from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2030.
Serving as a Â鶹ÒùÔº trustee is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the future of educational research. Trustees help shape the association’s strategy, support good governance, oversee Â鶹ÒùÔº’s charitable objectives, and ensure that members’ voices are reflected in decision-making.
We particularly encourage applications from members whose perspectives and experiences will contribute to a diverse, inclusive and representative Board of Trustees.
Further information, including role descriptions, eligibility criteria and details of how to apply, is available on the Â鶹ÒùÔº website. We encourage members with the skills, experience and commitment to help shape Â鶹ÒùÔº’s future to consider standing for one of these important roles.
