Meng Tian, Dr

Associate Professor in Educational Leadership at University of Birmingham

Meng Tian is associate professor in educational leadership and director of global engagement for the College of Social Sciences at the University of Birmingham. Her research examines how power, policy and professional practice shape leadership and social justice in education, from distributed leadership and inspection reform to the professional development of leaders and teachers across K–12 and higher education.
Over the past five years, her work has offered some of the most sustained scrutiny of Ofsted’s inspection frameworks, drawing on lived experience of both school leaders and inspectors, and setting English inspection practice against Estyn in Wales and His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education in Scotland.
Meng is a trustee of the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society (BELMAS) board, associate editor of the SAGE journal Educational Management, Administration & Leadership and co-convenor of the European Educational Research Association’s Educational Leadership Network, roles that place her at the centre of the field’s international research community.
