Curriculum reform across the four nations has renewed attention to teachers and curriculum leaders as curriculum-makers. Yet curriculum-making is often treated as something schools can simply do, without enough attention to the time, resources, professional learning, shared language and institutional conditions that make it possible.
This BCF online workshop brings together teachers, curriculum leaders, researchers and education stakeholders to examine curriculum-making amid reform. The session will begin with a short framing contribution before moving into facilitated curriculum-making clinics. These breakout discussions will invite participants to identify current curriculum priorities, the constraints shaping local curriculum work, what is often misunderstood by those outside practice, and the enabling conditions needed for meaningful curriculum-making.
The event is designed to support careful dialogue across the four nations without assuming that England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are directly comparable reform contexts. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of shared and jurisdiction-specific curriculum challenges, and their contributions will inform a short BCF briefing on curriculum-making priorities, constraints and enabling conditions.
