The second session in our Researching Youth Seminar series will unpack creative methods, the first of two sessions focusing on the foregrounding, and critique, of the ways in which creative methods are used with young people in a range of settings.
Our two speakers will explore the emotional response to, and practical application of, creative methodologies.
James Duggan will share his experience working on the collaborative Loneliness Connects Us Project based at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and in conjunction with 42nd Street. He will focus on his utilisation of the concept of the ‘carousel of methods’, expanding and broadening both creative pedagogy, thinking and practice with young people. This participatory project developed capacity of youth researchers to create new narratives of loneliness.
Thalia Thereza Assan will present her PhD research, which explores intersections of friendship and political participation in the lives of Black girls and Girls of Colour in Scotland. She will speak about designing her research to provide meaningful and enjoyable engagements for participants. She will focus on the creative methods she used, such as photovoice, mapping and writing, and how she adapted her research due to Covid-19.
Between each of the short presentations, there will be a chance for attendee’s to ask questions, in the Q&A. Also there will be an opportunity to discuss the themes and topics raised in breakout rooms.
